Sum of Speeds
The sense of speed is the city's most significant urban perception. When a photographer shoots in long exposure, different sizes of objects or speeds cause various trajectories in a frame. In this way of documentation, people can notice the enormous difference between objects and show differential states.
The site is located at the second section of Zhongxiao East Road and the Xinsheng Viaduct, next to Huashan Cultural and Creative Park; different kinds of speeds are easily perceived in the flow of people and cars. The extensions inside and outside the space also leave real and imaginary interlaces; they generate collections, differences, and angles.
People would sense different speeds when magnifying the contrast. When the scale is beyond the human's visual experience, arranging the body and physical experience in these spaces becomes essential. The main goal of this project is to play with the spatial composition state from humans' perception and the sensation of speed.
The sense of speed and movement becomes especially pronounced at urban intersections with heavy traffic, which long-exposure photography amplifies this sensation, capturing layers of motion in a single frame.
As an idle space adjacent to a creative park, its transformation into an art center becomes the primary task. The project introduces a range of spatial rhythms and bodily movements by combining exhibition areas with a dance center. Like a long-exposure photograph, the design captures the coexistence of fast and slow actions in same space.
The spatial composition—through framed views and diverse functional zones—creates opportunities for these different temporalities to intersect, overlap, and interact. In these moments of collision between speeds, the space reveals its vitality and potential.
