Sum of Speeds
The sense of speed is the city's most significant urban perception. When we shoot long exposure, different sizes of objects or speeds cause different trajectories in a frame.
In this way, we can notice the enormous difference between objects and show the state of differences.
The site is located at the second section of Zhongxiao East Road and the Xinsheng Viaduct, next to Huashan Cultural and Creative Park; different kinds of speeds are easily perceived in the flow of people and cars. The extensions inside and outside the space also leave real and imaginary interlaces; they generate collections, differences, and angles.
When combined with any one of them, people can feel different speed sensations. When the scale is as large as the human body, arranging the body and visual experience in these spaces becomes problematic.
The main goal is to study the state of the spatial composition of perception and the sensation of speed.
The sense of speed and movement becomes especially pronounced at urban intersections with heavy traffic, where long-exposure photography amplifies this sensation, capturing layers of motion in a single frame.
As an idle space adjacent to a creative park, its transformation into an art center becomes the primary task. By combining exhibition areas with a dance center, the project introduces a range of spatial rhythms and bodily movements. Like a long-exposure photograph, the design seeks to capture the coexistence of fast and slow actions within a single frame.
The spatial composition—through framed views and diverse functional zones—creates opportunities for these different temporalities to intersect, overlap, and interact. It is in these moments of collision between speeds that the space reveals its vitality and potential.
